Step 1 — Measure before you fall in love

The most common mistake we see: customers pick a beautiful sofa in the showroom and only realise at delivery that it does not fit through their staircase or dominates the drawing room. Before choosing style, measure three things at home: (1) drawing room length × width, (2) door and stair opening width and diagonal, (3) distance from TV / opposite wall (you want at least 6 feet).

Rule of thumb: a standard 3+2 fabric set (3-seater ~72 inches + 2-seater ~54 inches) needs an 11×12 ft drawing room to look balanced. Smaller rooms are better served by a 3+1+1, an L-shaped 5-seater or a single 3-seater with two accent chairs.

Step 2 — Frame material: this is what actually lasts

Solid wood (sheesham / teak / mango): the gold standard for Indian sofas, 15–20+ year frame life. Heavier, costs 15–25% more, but never sags or squeaks. Ask us to lift the sofa base at the showroom — solid wood is noticeably heavier.

Engineered wood / plywood: acceptable for 5–8 year use, more affordable, common in imported and modular designs. Fine for guest rooms and starter homes; not our first pick for a main drawing room.

Metal frame (typical in recliners): durable if the welds are clean and the mechanism is a branded one (Nilkamal, Godrej Interio, La-Z-Boy). Always test-open a recliner 10 times in the showroom.

Step 3 — Foam density and springs (the comfort test)

Density matters more than 'softness'. Ask for foam density in kg/m³ — anything below 32 kg/m³ will flatten inside 2 years. We recommend 40 kg/m³ HR foam or above for the seat cushion, 32–35 kg/m³ for the back cushion. Best-in-class is bonded PU foam over Pirelli-style webbing or serpentine springs.

Test at the showroom: sit for at least 60 seconds, lean back fully, and stand up. If the cushion recovers slowly or feels 'lumpy' anywhere, walk away — that sofa will disappoint in year 2.

Step 4 — Upholstery: what works in dusty Dewas homes

Fabric (chenille, jacquard, cotton blend): warmest, softest, most colour choice. Great for households without small children. Downside: shows dust in Dewas, needs regular vacuuming, and one bad stain can be permanent. Choose darker or textured weaves.

Leatherette (PU / rexine): easiest to wipe clean, dust-friendly, budget-friendly. Downside: 3–5 year skin-life in MP summers — cracking starts around year 4 unless you condition it. Best for households with toddlers or pets.

Genuine leather: 12–15+ year life, ages beautifully, premium look. Downside: expensive (₹80,000+ for a 3+2 set) and needs annual conditioning in dry Dewas winters.

Fabric with removable, washable covers: our top recommendation for young families in Dewas — combines fabric comfort with rexine-level practicality.

Step 5 — Regular vs recliner vs L-shape

Regular 3+2 or 3+1+1: most flexible, easiest to rearrange, best for guest-heavy Indian households. Our best-seller.

L-shaped (5-seater or 6-seater with chaise): maximises seating in medium-sized rooms, great for movie nights, harder to rearrange later. Buy only if you are certain about your room layout.

Recliner sofa (2-seater or 3-seater with 2 recliners): premium comfort, ideal for a TV lounge or master bedroom seating. Costs more (₹45,000+ for a 2-seater), needs branded mechanism (Nilkamal, Godrej Interio, La-Z-Boy) and extra clearance behind and in front for full recline.
